5 Steps to Link Your PAN with Aadhaar

According to the directive from the Income Tax Department, all taxpayers were required to have linked their PAN and Aadhaar Cards by 30th June 2023.  Failing to complete the PAN-Aadhaar linking by this deadline would result in your PAN Card becoming inoperative from 1st July 2023 onwards. With an inoperative PAN, you cannot access various financial services and products, including opting for loans from NBFCs and other financial institutions.

However, if you haven’t linked these two essential documents yet, you can still do so after paying a penalty charge. This article outlines a 5-step process to linking your PAN and Aadhaar, while outlining other essential details regarding this process.

Step 2: Under the Quick Links section, click on the ‘e-Pay Tax’ option.

Step 3: Enter your PAN number in the ‘PAN/TAN’ field and confirm the same. Click on the ‘Continue’ button after inputting your mobile number.

Step 4: Once OTP verification is completed, you will be redirected to the e-Pay Tax page. Click on the Continue button to proceed.

Step 5: Select the ‘Proceed’ option listed under the ‘Income Tax’ tab on the following page.

Step 6: Choose the relevant assessment year (‘2025-2026’). For the ‘Type of Payment’ field, choose the ‘Other Receipts (500)’ option and under the ‘Sub-Type of Payment’, select ‘Fee for Delay in Linking PAN and Aadhaar’ and click continue.

Step 7: The delay linking fee will be auto-selected as Rs. 1,000 against the ‘Others’ option. Simply click on the ‘Continue’ button and make the payment.

Step 8: Pay the late linking fee on the e-filing portal through your preferred mode (Netbanking/NEFT/Payment Gateway/Debit Card).

Once the payment is successfully made, it takes around thirty minutes to an hour to process the payment. After this period, you can proceed to linking your PAN and Aadhaar on the e-filing portal.
